FL♥ Thursday Loves – Lily Allen does vintage

2 Jun

Lily Allen has created her own vintage 18 piece collection, which is called ‘Treasure Chest’. Lily certainly appreciates the vintage fashion and it really does show throughout this collection.

She designed the vintage line with her sister Sarah Owens (last year, they also opened a vintage shop in London), the line includes really fun dresses, jumpsuits and maxi dresses with lots of colour. I think they have both done a really great job, as a fellow lover of vintage I totally see myself wearing some of these  pieces!!

The collection is out this June and will be sold at Harvey Nichols, it is based on the character ‘Lucy’, the story is that Lucy is walking through each decade and there are pieces in the collection that represent this. I love the direction this collection took and I’m loving what I see!

Eniko Mihalik

26 May

Fashion Loving loves to appreciate everything about fashion and oh yes Eniko Mihalik is right up there. The Hungarian model is an absolute beauty and her modeling is exceptional! She has been in some of the most amazing fashion shows and her photo shoots are awesome. Most recently you can find her in a beauty spread for the June/ July 2011 issue of Vogue Paris. The spread is about tanning and was shot by Giampaolo Sgura, doesn’t she just look hot!!

This is one sought after model, just this year alone she has graced the pages of Vogue Italia, W Magazine, Haper’s Bazaar and many more not to mention her ad campaigns. There’s just one simple reason why she is everywhere… this lady is just great at what she does and I most certainly love her to bits.

Check out the gallery for some more recent photo shoots!

Do you love Eniko Mihalik or what?

FL♥ Thursday Loves – Flatforms

19 May

Flatforms have become the sensation of this season, it has raised many eyebrows and there’s been a bit of controversity surrounding them. The new hybrid that takes from platforms, wedges and flats, has stepped on the scene for this summer. We have seen them used in a lot of the designers runway shoes, but will this trend really catch on.

Many of the critics have simply said that flatforms are ugly, and I agree that there are many flatforms that are ugly, but here at Fashion Loving I have found a few that I liked, which made me think… ‘this trend has potential’!

I think the hardest thing about this footwear trend, is picking the right clothes that compliment it. It’s quite difficult and unless you are a real fan of the 70s look there’s not much else you can wear it with. Having said that I think the Derek Lam collection for Spring/ Summer 2011 collection used the Flatforms cleverly.

One good thing that I love about the Flatform as a 5″ 5  lady, is that you get the height that you would get from heels (I love heels) without the pain that notoriously comes from wearing heels for a long time, which is always a good thing.

Tell me your thoughts on Flatforms, are they trendy or crazy?

FL♥ Thursday Loves – Paul Smith Spring

21 Apr

Paul Smith ready to wear spring 2011 collection was a delight to see. Paul Smith is a world renowned British designer whom I love, he is known for his menswear inspired looks for womenswear collections and he did not fail to deliver.

The lines in the collection were so simple and clean and brought out the chic girl on that runway. I must say everything that was presented worked so well together from the well tailored trousers to the pops of colours that can be seen throughout each look. It was a strong collection that had an essential underlying femininty that for me, helped bring a sense of fun and drama, which ultimately kept me interested and had me on the edge of my sit looking forward to the next look I would see.

Within the menswear pieces the trousers just stopped shy of the ankles (a trend that we are seeing a lot for the spring and summer) it is such a flattering cut for trousers and only added to the feminity that binds the whole collection. Interesting sparks of real innovation and creativity made for pleasant surprises like the strips of colour and polka dots above the hem of the trousers, adding something fresh to menswear pieces.

The colour pallet of the collection was unqestionably perfect and was one of the reasons the collection was so strong and beautiful. Colours ranged from purples, deep greens, navys to brighter colours such as orange and yellows. The collection also featured some pretty chic polka dot and stripe prints! All the colours complemented each other perfectly. Most outfits were light and screamed that this was a spring/ summer collection. But even if the outfit was predominately dark there was always a pop of colour in the form of an accessory. Like this purple outfit with the belt providing that much needed colour pop of neon (above).

One of the most eye catching aspects of this collection which admittedly made me squeal in excitement occasionally were the addition of the accessories from the silk polka dotted pocket squares to handbags that had a just the right amount of a splash of colour. These little extras enhanced the overall looks and only sold the outfit to me more.

Makeup was simple with nude and neutral tones being used so as not to take anything away from the impact that the clothes were making. The large backcombed quiffs hairstyles with the slick backed sides only added to the sense of drama on the runway, it really gave a sense that the clothes were made for the cool chic uptown girl.

I could really see the usual stamp of the Paul Smith design in this collection, there was impressive femininty in the tailoring of the menswear pieces. Even more impressive was the use of prints not just in the menswear inspired lookes but in the chiffon sheer dresses that floated down the runway beautifully. The bold colours of shirt dresses and accessoried really added to the excitement of the collection. Overall the collection certainly showed that this is Paul Smith’s expertise, its rare to find such femininty and softness in menswear inspred looks, but this collection was made to look effortless and chic.

FL♥ Thursday Loves – Dot to Polka Dots

14 Apr

This spring/ summer season sees the return of the Polka Dots, and I am loving them. I think polka dots are really versatile, it’s a print that works for any occasion. Designers have really re-invented the polka dot and have taken it to new heights.

This Oscar de La Renta dress is absolutely stunning and a stand out evening piece for all the right reasons. It looks really chic and sophisticated but never too much for the eye. The designer that I had the most fun looking through the collection was Marc Jacobs. The spring/ summer 2011 ready to wear collection was full of stripes and polka dots, the designs brought a fresh new perspective on polka dots and for me, made it really fun and exciting to see each different piece of the collection.

What I love about this Marc Jacob creation is the Polka Dot meets retro style. I love this retro 70s colourful print incorporated into the polka dot, I think it’s really innovative and makes for a stunning dress, it certainly brought a smile to my face!

You can find polka dots in all sizes, from very tiny dots to larger dots. There’s a dot size for every shape, figure, personality out there. I love big whopper dots, nothing like making a statement 🙂 I love the fact that they are also not limited to your clothes, there on shoes, bags and many other accessories. It’s a fun trend and there are plenty of ways your can incorporate the polka dot into your outfits, they look stylish!

Will you be wearing a dot or two for spring/ summer?

FL♥ Thursday Loves – Leomie Anderson

7 Apr

I recently came across the young British model Leomie Anderson, she is an absolute stunning gem. She is a newcomer that has been making her stamp on the fashion world!  Leomie has only great things to look forward to in her career. She has already graced the runyways of New York, London and Paris. She has also been in Teen Vogue, Marie Clare and most recently Vogue Italia!

Leomie was scouted by Premiere Model Agency at the tender age of 14 and they have been moulding her into the beautiful model that she is today. Both in runway and photo shoots Leomie exudes the very definition of a model and even now I am looking at these photos thinking ‘WOW’.

We have gotten to see Leomie a little more over the past few months, through her TV appearances in The Model Agency and interviews for the Guardian and the Observor, she seems like the most sweetest and down to earth individual. I hope she has only more successes in her career. I can’t wait to write more about this British talent!

What do you think of this new talent?

FL♥ Thursday Loves – Keira Knightley

24 Mar

So I waited all weekend for the highly anticipated ad for the Coco Mademoiselle perfume with Keira Knightley. It was fun and one of the few adverts I sat through and watched right up until the end!

My Favorite thing was Keira  Knightley’s styling, of course!! It fit both the brand and Keira so well (but this was obviously expected).

FL♥ Thursday Loves – Shoes

17 Mar

I stumbled across  some shoes this week and thought I would do a post about my love for shoes. Like any regular girl I am in love with shoes and it is always best to have some for every occasion AND every outfit.

My usual weekly hunt for new shoes led me to many nice shoes, if I had the chance I’d buy every single pair of shoes I liked! Unfortunately my purse doesn’t allow this, so I normally rate a pair of shoes by the feeling I get.

Alexander mcqueen faithful bootI fell in love with these Alexander Mcqueen shoes straightaway!! They look so cool and edgy at the same time (all traits that define the works of Alexander Mcqueen).

These are for sure a Fashion Loving Thursday favorite!!

Alexander mcqueen faithful boot studded

The studded version of the shoe is amazing, these alone would take your entire outfit look to three whole other levels!!

Can someone buy me these please 🙂

FL♥ Thursday Loves – The maxi-licious 2011 trend

10 Mar

I was going through my wardrobe today and realised I haven’t bought a skirt in aaages. Generally I’m a jeans and t-shirt kind of girl. Now that the weather is changing and becoming (semi) sunny, I am starting to see everyone’s skirts come out of hiding and it got me thinking what skirt would I like to wear…

I find the maxi skirt scrumptilicious!! The maxi dress/ skirt has surfaced as one of the spring/summer trends in the last couple of years.. but it has resurfaced again for one of the trends for spring/summer 2011 and I couldn’t be happier.

Alexander McQueen Spring Ready to Wear Collection 2011

I find that a maxi can be so chic and trendy… it is also a great way to be sexy without having to reveal much skin, its an understated way to look the part for summer. I think it’s absolutely essential to get a maxi skirt/ dress that suits your figure as some are more flattering on different figures.

I have first hand experience in this as I must admit I have tried to buy a maxi before but found it didn’t quite suit me. But perserverance is the key, and after finding these awesome looks, I am jumping back on the search wagon!

But there’s a maxi out there for everyone…. and I shall definitely be adding this to my summer looks.

This is my favorite maxi look. I love the layering of the skirt paired with this awesome crop top. Definitely chic and trendy all in one!

lookbook.nu

I adore this vintage maxi look. The colour of this dress is amazing and it just goes to show that a simple look can blow you away. I do happen to think the floppy hat takes this look to a whole other level.

Another stunning maxi…

The maxi is a must have to add (if you have not already got one)  to your collection of clothes and it is something that I will be doing… oh in about 10 seconds after this post.

What is your favourite summer piece?
